Last Saturday the 25th, Master Goblet Maker Chuck Savoie, visiting from his home and studio in Ripon, Wisconsin, demonstrated his fine goblet making techniques for a large crowd at Liquid Light Glass. On Wednesday the 29th, I posted a slide show of his Cane Pull- the preparatory step to building his goblets. Here is another slide show of the goblet being constructed.
Chuck’s mastership of glass was truly admired and appreciated by all who came to see him. Not only is he a glass master in the art of goblets and sculptures, but he makes all his own glass from scratch. He says, “Within this body of work I strive to take the tradition of Venetian “cup” making, and add another page. I make all my own glasses from scratch, from sand, using no commercially made color bar. Some of the formulas I use are 17th century Venetian and Bohemian formulas, which I have modified.”
Chuck was assisted by a team of 4: Patrick Morrissey, Elodie Holmes, Ira Lujan and Cia Friedrich. Demo photos are from John Marks and Marcy Albin. This Maestro Demo was sponsored by Glass Alliance-New Mexico.
Chuck will be back in Santa Fe for a slide lecture of his work at Jane Sauer Gallery, 652 Canyon Road, 6pm, October 6th. Please call to RSVP (505-995-8513), as space is limited.
